SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man is dead after losing control of his vehicle overnight in Mission Bay.

San Diego Police said the 21-year-old driver was traveling eastbound in the 200 block of Sea World Dr. at about 1 a.m. in his 2003 BMX SUV when he struck the road median and lost control.

The SUV continued across the roadway, striking a street light and then a tree on the left shoulder of the road.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released pending family notification.

It's not clear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Sea World Dr. was partially closed while crews worked on scene, but has since been reopened.
