SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Dramatic video shows dozens of migrants breaching the U.S.-Mexico border wall in southern San Diego.
The incident happened at Border Field State Park Thursday at 4 p.m.
52 Central Americans gathered at the border and ran across 10 minutes later, Border Patrol agent Theron Francisco said in a news release Friday.
Several videos posted on social media capture the throngs of people streaming through the border.
“It’s crazy; I didn’t know this could happen on livestream,” said Andy Martin, a YouTuber who filmed the breach up close.
In Martin’s video, a crowd of people is seen gathering next to a fence before an individual appears to cut it open with a pair of scissors.
“Then people just started running through,“ said Martin. “The Border Patrol guy had to call for backup.”
Border Patrol officials said two groups rushed the border simultaneously from different ends of Border Field State Park.
An agent responded to the entries and started pursuit, at which point the other migrants forced their way through the same border breach, according to Francisco. Additional agents responded.
Officials said 52 people were arrested for crossing illegally. The group included 23 men, 12 women, and 17 children, including one unaccompanied minor. All later claimed asylum, Francisco said.
Customs and Border Protection officials said they do not believe anyone got away.
