(KGTV) -- Firefighters knocked down a fire that burned an outbuilding and some vegetation in Alpine and forced the closure of a stretch of Interstate 8 in the area.
The structure fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the 1400 block of Viejas View Lane. Lorraine Straczynski is staying in the RV on the property.
"I heard crackling, I looked outside, the wind was blowing so I thought it was the tree fronds blowing in the wind and that didn't seem right so I looked over and I saw the fire coming over the white trailer here so I immediately called 911," said Straczysnki.
Heavy black smoke was visible in the immediate area, including off Interstate 8.
Eastbound and westbound I-8 lanes at Willows Road were shut down due to the fire response, according to the California Highway Patrol.
By 11:40 a.m., U.S. Forest Service crews were able to put out the fire. Officials said the fire charred at least three acres.
Crews stayed on scene for the rest of the day to put out hot spots.
"It was pretty scary, I mean, I was worried about the houses all around cause there's so much trees out here, so much brush, I'm just glad they contained it before it got out of hand," said Straczysnki.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's bomb arson unit.
