SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A speeding car crashed into a ditch in the Tierrasanta area after police said the driver led officers on a chase on San Diego roadways.

At around 2:30 a.m. Friday, San Diego police tried to pull over a Honda Accord for speeding on northbound Interstate 805 near El Cajon Boulevard.

However, the Accord sped away, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph with officers in pursuit.

The Accord exited at Mesa College Drive and continued to drive on numerous surface streets at high speeds.

Upon reaching Tierrasanta Boulevard, the driver apparently realized it was a dead end and hit the brakes, leaving more than 300 feet of skid marks on the road before hitting several road barriers and coming to rest in a ditch.

The driver fled the vehicle and into the Mission Trails hiking path, but he was quickly apprehended by officers on foot.

No injuries were reported.
