CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a training accident that left a young Camp Pendleton-based Marine dead.
According to Marine Corps officials, the accident occurred Oct. 20 at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in the Northern California town of Bridgeport.
Pfc. Christian Bautista was operating a turret on an armored carrier during training when the vehicle reportedly crashed, officials said.
Two fellow Marines attempted life-saving measures before paramedics arrived, but the 21-year-old Illinois native was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details on what led to the vehicle crash were not immediately available.
Marine officials said Bautista joined the Corps in Sept. 2018 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton in May 2019.
