(KGTV) – Cal Fire reported “minimal growth” of a brush fire that erupted Wednesday afternoon just south of the U.S.-Mexico border near Tecate.

Cal Fire tweeted Thursday morning: “Overnight crews reported minimal fire growth toward the border. CAL FIRE will have aircraft over the fire later this morning in order to gather additional information on how close to the border it has burned.”

The fire was first reported shortly after 4 p.m., but Cal Fire said it was unclear how the fire started.

Through Wednesday afternoon and into the evening, the fire burned on the Mexico side and approached the border, but Cal Fire crews made air drops on the U.S. side to “pretreat fuels” and moved addition resources into the area overnight.
