SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters responded after a fire broke out in an abandoned building in San Diego’s Lincoln Park neighborhood Saturday morning.
The fire started inside a building on Ocean View Boulevard and 47th Street around 9:30 a.m.
Large plumes of black smoke could be seen from miles away.
The building that caught fire is owned by a nearby church. According to a church official, the building was used to help house the homeless.
The official told 10News the church recently told those staying in the building they had to leave after several incidents.
At this time, it’s unclear what started the fire or if anyone was injured.
"This fire has been stopped. Crews will be here for a few hours. Please use caution if you are in the area but take alternate routes if possible," San Diego Fire-Rescue said in a Tweet.
