All clear given after bomb squad called to investigate suspicious device near San Diego Zoo

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A bomb squad has cleared the scene after being called to an area near the San Diego Zoo to investigate a suspicious package.

According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, someone mistook a "discarded item" for a suspicious device. The item was reportedly bamboo with wires sticking out.

The bomb squad was called to the 1800 block of Zoo Place around 1 p.m.

The San Diego Zoo remained open during the incident.
