SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sunday morning, lifeguards rescued a 64-year-old man who injured his ankle while hiking at Torrey Pines State Beach.
According to the San Diego Fire Department, the call came in at 9:06 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say the man injured his ankle while hiking at the base of Broken Hill Trail at an inaccessible cove near Flat Rock. High tide made it difficult for lifeguards to access the cove.
A helicopter was eventually employed to rescue the man, who was taken to a local hospital by medics.
Both San Diego lifeguards and the San Diego Fire Department responded to the incident to assist Torrey Pines State lifeguards.
