SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Krispy Kreme's famous glazed doughnut is going dark.

Krispy Kreme will be releasing a special eclipse doughnut at participating U.S. stores on Aug. 21, in celebration of the celestial phenomenon. The doughnut maker's traditional glazed doughnut will be coated with a chocolate glaze, mimicking the total eclipse to take place on Monday.

“The solar eclipse is a rare occasion providing a total sensory experience for viewers across the continental U.S. Chocolate will have the same effect as we introduce a first-time chocolate glazing of our iconic Original Glazed Doughnut," Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer at Krispy Kreme, said in a release.

Customers can even watch as the chocolate glaze is waterfalled onto doughnuts in-store during the promotion.

The doughnuts will also be sold on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 - 20, during the stores' "Hot Light" hours. San Diego has three locations to try and snag one the treat:

Each San Diego location confirmed to 10News they will be participating in the promotion.
