CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista hit-and-run ended fatally Sunday night, after a jogger was hit and killed by an SUV just after 8 p.m.
Chula Vista Police Department responded to the collision in the 900 block of Lane Avenue in Chula Vista. They told 10News a pedestrian was jogging on the sidewalk, southbound on Lane Avenue.
A vehicle, described as a large, white Chevy Silverado with black rims was also traveling southbound on Lane Avenue when it veered onto the sidewalk. The vehicle struck the pedestrian but did not stop.
The jogger was taken to Mercy Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
At 3:35 p.m. Monday a subject of interest turned himself in at the Chula Vista Police Department and was taken into custody.
The man, identified as George Joseph Espinosa, Jr., is a 47-year-old resident of Chula Vista. Espinosa directed officers to the location of his vehicle, which matched the description previously provided.
He was arrested for hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and booked into the San Diego County Central Detention Facility.
