Former gang member appointed to Mayor's Senior Homeless Advisor

Posted
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mayor Kevin Faulconer has appointed a former gang member as the Senior Advisor on Homeless Coordination.

Jonathan Herrera was previously working in the Mayor's office as Director of Public Safety and Neighborhood Services.

But Herrera says his experience in a gang, and time behind bars for weapons and narcotics violations gives him a different perspective.

Herrera's appointment comes just as the San Diego Housing Commission kicks off a 3-year, $80-million  program to provide more housing for the homeless.
