Fatal crash on SR-163 near Balboa Park prompts Sig Alert

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person is dead after they were struck by a vehicle and hit by two other vehicles near Balboa Park.

The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. Saturday on southbound State Route 163 at the northbound Interstate 5 connector, near the 4th Avenue exit. A pedestrian was reportedly crossing SR-163 when they were hit by a white, Dodge Challenger, according to California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was then hit by two box trucks traveling on the highway. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. 

CHP is on the scene investigating. The cause of the crash has not been released.

A Sig Alert for SB SR-163 was issued for at least an hour as crews investigate. Lanes were reopened shortly before 7 a.m.
