ESCONDIDO, Calif. - A family shopping trip to the mall turned into a nightmare in a split second.

On Friday night, the Rabanal family went to Westfield North County mall. They were riding on an escalator from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor when Brandon's father heard his son screaming.

When he looked down, he saw his son's Croc and foot being sucked into the side of the escalator

A Crocs spokesman issued the following statement to 10News:

"We are committed to the safety of our customers, which is the top priority for our company. There is no evidence that our shoes are more likely to become entrapped in escalators than other soft-soled shoes. However, we have included educational hang tags on Crocs™ products worldwide. We’re doing this because Crocs cares about the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of consumers. The popularity of our shoes gives us an opportunity to educate millions of our customers on the importance of escalator safety. The most important safety factors for escalators and moving walkways are safe rider behavior and proper maintenance of escalators. Our hang tag messages are designed to address safe riding behavior."
