CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The city of Chula Vista is in the process of installing a new traffic control system to alleviate traffic in east Chula Vista.
The three main areas of focus are East H Street, Telegraph Canyon Road, and Otay Lakes Road.
The project is funded with a Highway Safety Transportation grant. The system is expected to increase traffic flow, reduce congestion and delays. The project will impact 28 intersections.

The system will be able to track real-time data and traffic, making changes to traffic signals as needed when it notices a change to the flow of drivers.
The new technology is expected to reduce travel times by 10 to 30 percent and is expected to be up and running by the end of October.
