LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - An accused drunk driver was behind the wheel across several San Diego freeways.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department was tipped off about a suspicious vehicle early Friday night.

Deputies received a report of a suspicious man drinking alcohol behind the CVS store at 3749 Avocado Boulevard, SDSO Sergeant Michael Hettinger said. When a Sheriff's Deputy arrived, they said the driver, later identified as 52-year-old Simone Bahou, started his vehicle and slowly drove past him.

The deputy on scene said they could smell alcohol coming from the car as Bahou drove past. Multiple commands to stop the vehicle were given, but the deputy said Bahou continued driving.

The department said the deputy returned to his vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, but Bahou took off and led authorities on a high-speed chase. The pursuit continued along the 94 freeway and onto interstates 5 and 8 for about 30 minutes, involving both SDSO and CHP officers.

Deputies attempted two pit maneuvers before the suspect's car crashed into a wall on the 70th Street and Lake Murray Blvd. overpass in La Mesa.

Our 10News tracker followed close behind the whole time and spotted an open bottle of wine inside the suspect's car. He was "extremely intoxicated," Sgt. Hettinger said in a release.

Bahou appeared to have suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody with the help of a Sheriff's Canine. He was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to Sgt. Hettinger.

Bahou is being charged with felony evasion, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence. No other drivers or law enforcement officers were hurt.
