Posted

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego dogs hit the waves this morning for the 12th annual Surf- A -Thon competition in Del Mar.

Dogs and their owners were out early this morning all for a good cause. The pups were in life jackets, on surfboards, keeping their balance in the ocean. The event is all to raise money for the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The center is a no kill facility that helps animals and uses them as therapy for people.

There were several categories up for grabs during the competition including small, medium and large dogs, a freestyle competition and a costume contest. Many of the dogs compete every year.

All proceeds raised during the event go directly to the Helen Woodward center.
