BOULEVARD -- A sheriff's deputy fired at a man suspected of causing a disturbance in the Boulevard area early Tuesday, but missed.

Deputies were sent to investigate a report of a "family disturbance" in the 4600 block of Kumeyyay Road near state Route 94 around 4:15 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Jim Walker said. The events leading up to the shooting were not immediately disclosed.

The suspect was bitten by a sheriff's service dog and was ultimately taken into custody about 90 minutes after deputies were summoned, according to the lieutenant.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was expected to be treated for the dog bite at a hospital before being booked into jail, Walker said.
