SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sheriff's deputies say they made an arrest following a brazen theft at a North County Walmart this month.

San Diego Sheriff's deputies arrested Christian "Cody" Silva, 22, Tuesday for stealing an elderly woman's purse in the parking lot of a Poway Walmart on Sept. 12.

“I parked my cart behind my car and started loading my groceries in the trunk," Virginia said. “The next thing I knew my purse was ripped off my shoulder,” she said, “And the guy was on a skateboard.”

SDSO said Silva stole the 75-year-old woman's purse off her shoulder as she was walking outside the store and rode away on his skateboard. Deputies received more than 50 tips regarding the theft.

Silva was booked into San Diego Central Jail and charged with one count of felony robbery, according to jail records. He's being held on $100,000 bail and is due in court Thursday.

“All that for $2. Now that’s plain stupid if you ask me,” Virginia said.

Virginia advises women to stop using purses with shoulder straps and start wearing crossbody bags that are tougher for criminals to steal.
