SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new urban trail system linking four City Heights canyons was opened to the public Saturday morning.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer and local leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the City Heights Canyons Loop Trails project, more widely known as the "butterfly corridors" to frequent hikers of the area.

San Diego Canyonlands has worked with local leaders and stakeholders since 2005 to develop the urban trail system, according to the city.

The project links Manzanita Canyon, Hollywood Canyon, Swan Canyon, and 47th Street Canyon together.
