SAN DIEGO --- Police have arrested a man suspected of attacking another man with a machete on a City Heights property early Thursday morning.
The attack occurred sometime before 4 a.m. in a shed behind a house in the 3500 block of 40th Street. According to a San Diego police lieutenant, residents of the house heard screaming coming from the back shed. They specifically heard a man yell, “he cut off my hand.” That prompted the residents to call 911.
Responding officers found the victim with lacerations on his hand and neck. Paramedics had to use a tourniquet on the victim as they rushed him to a nearby hospital.
The victim, who resides in the shed, reportedly told officers an acquaintance of his attacked him with a machete and drove away in a car. Officers found a car matching that description a few blocks away, trying to get on Interstate 15 south at University Avenue. They arrested the driver at gunpoint, who surrendered peacefully. They also recovered the weapon used in the attack, but did not disclose where it was located.
The condition of the victim and the circumstances that led up to the attack were not confirmed.
