Carlsbad: Man, woman injured after crashing stolen car

CARLSBAD (CNS) -Two people in a stolen car suffered serious injuries after speeding away from police and crashing into another car in Carlsbad, police said Monday.

The crash happened shortly after 10:58 p.m. Sunday on El Camino Real near Kelly Drive in Carlsbad, Carlsbad police Lt. Christie Calderwood said.

Officers attempted to stop the stolen Acura car traveling north at El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue before the driver sped out of sight of officers and collided with a BMW traveling south near Kelly Drive, Calderwood said.

The 25-year-old man driving the Acura and a 43-year-old woman also in the Acura were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

The 27-year-old woman driving the BMW and a 28-year-old man also in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash, Calderwood said.

Officers closed portions of northbound El Camino Real from West Ranch Street to Tamarack Avenue and southbound El Camino Real from Tamarack Avenue to Kelly Drive from 11 p.m. to around 4 a.m. to investigate the crash.
