VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A group of men carjacked a driver at gunpoint in Vista and led deputies on a pursuit before crashing into a garage and fleeing the scene.
The incident happened shortly before 3 a.m. on West Los Angeles Drive, according to sheriff's officials.
Five men wearing masks approached the victim near his vehicle and demanded the keys. The victim handed over the keys, but one of the men robbed the victim of his wallet and cell phone at gunpoint. The group then drove off in the victim's vehicle.
Deputies were notified, and they spotted the victim's vehicle on E. Vista Way. When a deputy squad car approached the vehicle, the vehicle drove onto Franklin Lane but crashed into a home's garage.
Four men were seen leaving the vehicle and jumping a fence to flee the scene. A description of the men was not immediately provided.
One man, identified by deputies as Miguel Pimental, was spotted hiding behind a bush on Stonehurst Court. He was identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle and was taken into custody.
Pimental is currently on probation, according to sheriff's officials.
