(KGTV) - Border Patrol agents seized more than $71,000 worth of opium paste found taped to a man's buttocks last week.
El Centro Border Patrol agents arrested the suspected smuggler on July 4 at about 8 a.m., after agents stopped the 28-year-old suspect at a Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City, Calif.
A K-9 alert prompted agents to refer the driver to a secondary inspection where the opium paste was found taped to the man's backside.
In total, the 2.23 pounds of paste has an estimated street value of $71,360.
Border Patrol agents turned the suspect and narcotics over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
