SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KGTV) - More than a half a million dollars in drugs were seized from a vehicle stopped this week in San Clemente.

Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tuesday arrested a 45-year-old man following a vehicle stop on Basilone Road near Interstate 5.

While interviewing the driver, agents were alerted by a canine unit checking out the vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox.

Upon further inspection, border agents located 41 bundles of drugs, containing 28 pounds of heroin, about 5 pounds of cocaine, and about 25 pounds of methamphetamine. The drugs have a combined street value of $560,334.

The driver and narcotics have been turned over to a Drug Enforcement Agency task force.

CBP says since Oct. 1, 2016, agents in the San Diego Sector have seized 228 pounds of heroin, 2,227 pounds of cocaine, and 2,935 pounds of methamphetamine.
