Neighborhood website names San Diego's safest suburbs

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There's a lot to consider when moving to San Diego: Schools, travel to local attractions and conveniences, neighbors.

And, of course, safety.

Neighborhood website, Niche, annually ranks the safest areas of nearly 10,000 neighborhoods around the country, based on data from the FBI and U.S. Census, as well as local crime statistics, and survey responses from users.

In San Diego, the safest ranked areas are in the North County, with Poway, Carlsbad, and Solana Beach. The safest area though, according to Niche, is Coronado.

As one Coronado reviewer said, "notorious for the strict police force, and suburban lifestyle, regular commuters know to drive at the speed limit. Criminals know to steer clear."

But the top of the rankings wasn't solely in North County, with Santee, Imperial Beach, and Chula Vista also rounding out the top 10 areas.

Just outside of the top 10, Vista, El Cajon, and Escondido made the list.

No one area in the top 15 scored below a "B" in overall grade or public schools. No one area also scored below a "C+" grade in crime and safety.
