DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - You won't catch a better scene of bling and history under one roof than at the San Diego County Fair's Gems, Mineral, and Jewelry exhibit.

This year's "Fossil of the Year" category brings to attention 20,000 species of trilobites, or ancient marine organisms that lived on the ocean's floor 300 million years ago. Visitors can check out the amazing specimens in the Mission Tower exhibit hall.

MORE SD FAIR FUN:

Visitors can also check out amateur and professional jewelry makers, who are more than happy to give demonstrations and discuss their craft. If you're in the market for something shiny and cool, you're more than likely to find it here.

Within the mix of jewels and fossils are gems that give off striking fluorescent hues under black lights and dazzling colors on their own.
