SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new report ranks San Diego among the best cities in the U.S. for biking.
The group PeopleForBikes studied cities across the country to determine how often and how many people ride their bicycles; safety; quality of bike routes; how a community’s bike network serves the community; how quickly a community is improving bicycling infrastructure and getting others to bike.
The top 10 cities, according to PeopleForBikes’ “PlacesForBikes” statistics:
1. Fort Collins, Colorado
2. Wausau, Wisconsin
3. Boulder, Colorado
4. Portland, Oregon
5. Tucson, Arizona
6. Madison, Wisconsin
7. Santa Monica, California
8. Washington, D.C.
9. San Diego, California
10. New Orleans, Louisiana
Andy Hanshaw, executive director of the San Diego Bike Coalition, said the city’s top 10 ranking “is reflective of the many efforts made to improve bicycling in the region.”
At a Wednesday news conference, Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Bike Coalition officials and other city leaders spoke on the numerous efforts to make San Diego a bike-friendly city, including the implementation of new bike lanes and the increase in dockless bikes across the city.
