SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The weekend ahead of July 4 is bringing some patriotic flair to San Diego's weekend, alongside some outdoor fun.

Oceanside's Independence Day parade kicks off on Saturday, with locals expected to line the streets as marching bands and local organizations celebrate the holiday. Oceanside's Sunset Market will also celebrate with a specially themed Thursday night of shopping and live music.

The San Diego Symphony is kicking off their Bayside Summer Nights series with a star-spangled celebration as well, including hits from movies and patriotic music.

Aside from the July 4 events this weekend, the San Diego Smooth Jazz festival will fill the air along San Diego Bay with some sweet tunes.

Switchfoot is also slated to return to Moonlight State Beach for their massive (free) beach festival and concert: 

THURSDAY

Night fishing at Santee Lakes

Where: Santee Lakes; Cost: Permit required

Grab your fishing polls and lanterns (but not your radios) and head over to Santee Lakes for night fishing from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. A permit will be required but no state license is needed.

 

Star Spangled Sunset Market

Where: Corner of Pier and Coast Highway, Oceanside; Cost: Free

Sunset Market's weekly outdoor marketplace will celebrate July 4th with a special "Red, White, and Blue" theme this week. Head over for food, live entertainment, a children's area, crafts, and more.

FRIDAY

Street Food Friday

Where: Fair@44; Cost: Free

Hungry? Check out Street Food Friday in City Heights for delicious, global cuisine, live music and dancing, and family fun to kick off your weekend! From Street Style Brazilian BBQ to Coal Brothers Baja Med grilled seafood tacos, to Dojo Cafes reflective drinks such as pinole or one of a kind Vietnamese Cold Brew, come hungry.

 

San Diego Symphony: Star Spangled Pops

Where: Embarcadero Marina Park South; Cost: $18 - $85

San Diego Symphony's Bayside Summer Nights series begins this weekend with a salute to America, complete with patriotic hits and music from Broadway and hit movies.

SATURDAY

Switchfoot Bro-Am Beach Fest

Where: Moonlight State Beach; Cost: Free - $2,500

Switchfoot will perform live at the free Bro-Am Beach Fest, featuring live music from more bands, surf contests, and festival vendor booths. Proceeds benefit local initiatives with Challenged Athletes' Foundation, and Feeding San Diego to name a few.

 

Oceanside Independence Day Parade

Where: Coast Highway from Wisconsin Street to Civic Center Drive; Cost: Free

Oceanside's annual July 4th parade steps off at 10 a.m., bringing residents out to watch as local officials, organizations, and first responders celebrate Independence Day.

SUNDAY

2nd Annual San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival

Where: Embarcadero Marina Park North; Cost: $65 - $250

(Friday to Sunday)

The Embarcadero will be filled with the smooth sounds of jazz this weekend, as a variety of artists perform live during the San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival. Pack a picnic and blanket and layout along the San Diego Bay for some great performances.

 

Classic Car Show

Where: Belching Beaver Brewery, Vista; Cost: Free - $20

Vista's Belching Beaver Brewery will hold its 5th annual car show, giving beer fans a chance to enjoy some craft beer, check out beautiful, classic autos, and enjoy live music.
