SAN DIEGO - A Lyft driver crashed and rolled over in the Oak Park area early Friday morning, taking out a fire hydrant in the process.

The crash happened at around 2:40 a.m. on 54th and Nutmeg streets, according to authorities.

The driver said he was working long hours and fell asleep behind the wheel of his Kia right before the crash.

The broken hydrant sent water several feet into the air for nearly 20 minutes before crews shut down the water. The crash also caused damage to the concrete and left a large hole near the hydrant.

The Lyft driver was in tears as surveyed the damage. He told 10News that the car meant everything to him and was a source of his income.
