OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A dog disappeared Tuesday from the same Oceanside rental home where someone broke in and brutally tortured two Huskies in early May.

Neighbors think the same person who broke into the home on Carino Way and injured the Huskies is also responsible for the disappearance Tuesday of Lala, a nine-year-old golden retriever mix.  The attacker poured a corrosive substance on the fur and down the throats of two Huskies, Estrella and Cocayo, and plucked out one dog’s right eye.

Reward doubled in Oceanside dog torture case

The owner of the Huskies moved out the same day that she found the dogs in the home, bloodied and tortured.

The new renters moved in last Friday.

Lala disappeared on Tuesday after neighbors say someone let the dogs out of the yard twice while the owner was at work.

Neighbors returned the dogs to the yard twice, latching the gate each time.

“When we went in to inspect the yard to see if there was a hole in the fence or anywhere the dogs could come out, we saw absolutely nothing,” a neighbor who did not want to be identified told 10News.

That neighbor said the dogs got out a third time, and they saw the smaller dog in the street, but Lala was nowhere in sight.

Neighbors believe someone who lives in the area hurt the Huskies and took Lala.

Police are investigating.

“Somebody who could do this to an animal could harm a child a human being,” Elsa Gayton, a friend of the victims, said.

San Diego Animal Advocates is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who tortured the Huskies.

Anyone with information on either case is urged to call Oceanside Police Investigations at (760) 435-4580.
