SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A mother and daughter were found dead after a fire erupted at a Mission Hills home Tuesday morning, completely destroying the house.

The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. at a home in the 1700 block of Fort Stockton Drive, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials.

When crews arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames and the roof and ceiling of the home had caved in.

Fire officials said the fire had likely been burning through the night.

It took 35 firefighters just under an hour to fully knock down the fire from the outside. Crews were not able to initially enter the home due to likely structural problems caused by the blaze, as well as what was described as semi-hoarding conditions inside.

Just before 7 a.m., fire officials confirmed that a body was found inside the damaged house. Another person was found dead inside the house just over two hours later.

The identities of the deceased have not been determined. They have been identified as a mother and daughter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
