UPDATE: The Coast Guard suspended their search for the missing man early Thursday evening.

SAN DIEGO - Four men were rescued and a fifth man remains missing after a boat capsized off Windandsea Beach in La Jolla Wednesday evening.

The search for the missing man continued Thursday.

Authorities said they received reports just after 6 p.m. Wednesday of a 25-foot boat that became caught up in surf and overturned, sending five men into the water. San Diego lifeguards were able to rescue four of the five lobster fisherman. The rescued men were wearing life jackets.

The U.S. Coast Guard, with the help of lifeguards, San Diego Fire-Rescue, San Diego County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, conducted a search for the missing man. However, the search was suspended after about 90 minutes. It resumed Thursday morning.

One witness told 10News that he saw the boat capsize after it was hit by a giant wave. He says he heard several people screaming for help.

"There was a rogue wave that hit them he tried to escape it, he kept going out but another wave hit him and that’s when the boat started getting really close to the shore," the witness said. "There were two or three of us that were calling 911 at the time, and as soon as we’re calling them, that’s when the boat capsized."

All four men, along with a lifeguard injured in the rescue, were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital for evaluation. They were treated and released.
