Arizona police officer charged with raping San Diego woman

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  A Yuma, Arizona police officer has been charged with eight felony counts of rape.

The alleged incident occurred September 14th in the 4700 block of Marlborough in Kensington.

The 911 call to San Diego police was placed by Jane Doe's mother who claimed the off duty officer had forcibly raped her daughter.

The relationship between the victim and Jared Elkins is not clear. A criminal protective order was issued for the victim who was not in the courtroom.

According to court documents the victim was intoxicated and Elkins should have known she was not able to give sexual consent.

Elkins was married in 2013. He has been a member of the Yuma Police Department for 7 years and is currently on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the trial.

He remains free on $250,000 bail.
