ABC 10News Pinpoint Weather for Sun. Jan. 22, 2023: King Tides, Santa Ana winds on the way

Posted
and last updated

King Tides will last through Monday. Higher than normal tides will bring the chance for minor coastal flooding in low-lying areas, while extreme low tide could impact boats in the harbors and navigation. A Beach Hazards statement is in effect through noon Monday. Santa Ana winds are expected to make king tides even larger, so waves could reach eight to ten feet tall.

Santa Ana winds could bring gusts to coastal communities as fast as 50 miles per hour Sunday night, before slowing to 35mph Monday. Winds will be especially strong in the desert, increasing the risk for blowing dust and debris. These winds taper off Tuesday before a weaker wind pattern returns Thursday.

Dry weather will stick around into later this week. Wednesday and Thursday could bring daytime highs close to 70 degrees for some parts of the county.

Drier weather will give a chance to our state to continue the clean effort after the storms, and a chance for the ground to soak up moisture. However, there's a very slight chance of showers next Sunday. Confidence in this projection will increase as we get further into the week.

Sunday's Highs:
Coast: 60-65°
Inland: 55-62°
Mountains: 40-52°
Deserts: 57-64°
