Dogs love spending time outdoors come summertime — they aren’t called the “dog days of summer” for nothing — but you’ll want to be sure you’ve got a way to keep them cool and hydrated while they’re running around, playing fetch and rolling around in the fresh-cut grass.

Thankfully, there’s a bowl that works to keep your dog’s water cool all day long so you don’t have to worry about constantly filling it up with ice cubes.

The Cooling Pet Bowl from Cool Pup is the genius product you didn’t know you needed in your life, but once you’ve tried it, there’ll be no going back. The bowl is comprised of two parts: a clear acrylic bowl and a gel-filled insert.

The gel insert goes in the freezer and within a few hours is frozen and ready to be placed in the plastic bowl and filled with water. It’s designed to keep the water chilled for hours at a time so your pet never has to hydrate with water that’s hot from sitting out in the sun.

Based on the product reviews on Amazon, it’s worth giving the Cooling Pet Bowl a try. The bowl has received 60% 5-star reviews from pet owners who have tried it out and they seem to be really surprised by the long-lasting cooling effects:

“I was amazed after putting the insert in the freezer for a few hours that the water stayed cold and the insert was still cold when it was time to refill,” one Amazon review stated.

Others were a little disappointed by the bowl’s size, noting that it required multiple refills if larger and/or multiple dogs were using the bowl:

“They keep the water cool for at least 10 or 11 hours but just way to [sic] small, I have a boxer and a lab and these need to be very large,” one review pointed out.

Thankfully, this isn’t the only bowl on the market that’s designed to keep water cold.

The YETI Boomer 8 Stainless Steel Non-Slip Dog Bowl, for example, is designed for water or kibble and, because it’s made using stainless steel, it’ll keep water chilled for hours. It’s also great for bigger dogs, considering it holds up to 8 cups of water or dry dog food

While this product doesn’t require any time in the freezer, people still found that it was able to keep ice water chilled for an impressive amount of time:

“My baby loves her yeti bowl. she will only drink water if it has ice in it…. The Yeti kept the ice floating for 4 hours today,” an Amazon review noted.

Another customer pointed out that it works well outdoors, too:

“I’ve had this bowl for a couple months now and its holding up great. I keep it outside in a covered patio 100% of the time. It keeps water colder than other bowls I have tried.”

The bowl is a bit pricey, coming in at $49.98 on Amazon. But we have a feeling no price is too steep for your fur baby!

Now that you know products like this exist, your dog will be able to beat the heat all summer long. Stay cool, doggos. Stay cool.
