LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- More than two years after ripping out the hearts of San Diego football fans, the L.A. Chargers are still rubbing salt in the wound.

Ever since the Chargers brought back their powder-blue uniforms as alternate jerseys starting in 1994, fans in San Diego clamored for the team to abandon the dark blue look. Time and again, the Spanos family refused, preferring to stick with the jerseys they felt represented their period of ownership.

Year after year, the team would tease fans by breaking out the powder blues once or twice, but they'd never commit to the full change.

What San Diego wanted and never received, Los Angeles will now get despite not asking.

On Tuesday, the Chargers announced they would permanently change to the powder blues as their primary home uniform for the upcoming 2019 season, the team's final year in Carson before moving into a shared Inglewood stadium with the L.A. Rams.

"I've talked to our fans, and the love the uniforms and the colors," Chargers president of business operations A.G. Spanos announced. "They love the lightning bolt. It's truly iconic. It's very special, and we have a great history."

All of this was true in San Diego, but the Chargers would never give the fans what they wanted. To make the change now is just an additional slap in the face to fans who already felt abandoned and overlooked by the team's move to L.A.
