San Diego (KGTV) -- While professional sports continues to make a return during the COVID-19 pandemic, youth teams are starting to hit the fields as well.
"I think I speak for the soccer community," says Crusaders Soccer Club coaching director Rene Miramontes, "that we're like a bunch of little kids right now. The coaches are so excited to have soccer back."
Like most sports, soccer has been on mandatory lock down since the middle of March. Crusaders Soccer Club is now back on the soccer field, but are taking a lot of precautions.
"We have the field laid out so that each individual has it's own area. It's well apart, usually six feet between people, but we've gone and done ten yards."
Miramontes says practices are being implemented into phases, with safety being the top priority.
"Phase one is no contact. We have a curriculum that we have developed that is focused on technical development, but it can also be done individually while working with somebody else. If somebody doesn't feel one-hundred percent ready to come back we respect that."
Miramontes also adds that in a couple of months, they'll determine if it's safe to start playing games.
"We want to get that feeling of a club back. We've been in this community for almost fifty years and we want to preserve that feeling. If we're going to make a mistake, we're going to make it on the side of caution."
