Supervisors will consider Tuesday whether to compensate $600 each to San Francisco sidewalk vendors who were displaced during the city's Super Bowl celebration.

Supervisor Aaron Peskin says the money is a small way to give back to merchants and artists who suffered losses for roughly three weeks after they were booted for a free fan festival along the city's downtown waterfront.

Peskin and others on the board have been critical of the estimated $5 million San Francisco spent to host Super Bowl festivities, including on Super Bowl City. The game itself was held 45 miles away in Santa Clara, home to the San Francisco 49ers new stadium.

The measure would create a $100,000 compensation fund to start. It could apply to 247 permitted vendors, although Peskin doubts all would qualify.
