Face shields that were designed to protect NFL players from COVID-19, that Oakley developed with the NFL, will not be required to be worn, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Last week, Oakley unveiled the mask shields, which would attach to players helmets and protect players from the deadly virus when they returned to the field in 2020.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has already been practicing with the mask on, according to CBS Sports.

But according to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, the league will not make the face shields mandatory.

  • The NFL Networks reports that it's up to the players if they want to wear them or not.
