Pepsi hasn’t been shy when it comes to creating new flavors of its popular soft drink. In 2020, the company released Pepsi Pineapple just in time for the summer season. In November, it introduced an Apple Pie flavor.
Now that the long winter months are upon us, Pepsi decided to get people’s attention by putting out a challenge to its fans and customers on Twitter. The goal? To say goodbye to 2020 and see if everyone was up for something new for 2021.
“What’s sweeter than saying ‘bye’ to the worst year ever?” said the Dec. 17 Twitter post. “Pepsi ‘Cocoa’ Cola — the latest concept from the Pepsi Test Kitchen. Want to try and get your hands on it? 2,021 RTs and we’ll make a batch. #PepsiCocoaCola”
Within a few hours, customers made it clear that a hot cocoa-flavored soft drink would definitely be a welcomed addition to the new year. The tweet had nearly 3,000 likes by 2 p.m. and nearly twice as many were talking about it on the social media platform. Pepsi quickly confirmed it had heard the message, loud and clear.
Beyond the clever little dig at rival soda company Coca-Cola with the name, Pepsi’s Cocoa Cola intends to become the season’s best soda.
“There is nothing more classic than hot cocoa on a winter day, but this year has been anything but typical,” said Todd Kaplan, vice president of Marketing at Pepsi, in a statement to media. “So why not bring together the delicious taste of a Pepsi with the delicious, wintery taste of chocolate and marshmallow and bring some unexpected joy to our fans this season? We are confident we nailed Pepsi ‘Cocoa’ Cola and can’t wait to get this in the hands of cola fans this winter.”
And, some fans seem excited about the idea of getting their hands on Pepsi with hints of chocolate and marshmallow.

Another Twitter user, Sneaker Hippie, told Pepsi its latest flavor idea sounded like a favorite drink from childhood.
This sounds like the concoction I used to whip up when I was younger. Pepsi, Chocolate syrup, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Pepsi hasn’t released any information about the launch date for its Cocoa Cola except that it will likely be sometime in early 2021. We’re guessing it will be only for a limited time, so stay tuned to find out when it will hit store shelves.
