POWAY (CNS) - A woman was found dead after her car apparently went over an embankment in a rural area of Poway, deputies said
San Diego County Sheriff's deputies received a call at 4:36 p.m. from a passerby who found the car leaning into two large trees at the bottom of an embankment near Poway Road and Mina de Oro Road, according to a press release.
Deputies arrived on scene and found the driver's side door open.
A woman's body was found nearby, apparently ejected from the car. Its decomposition led authorities to believe an accident likely occurred "several days ago."
Investigators determined the car, a 1997 GEO Metro, had been traveling westbound on Poway Road before the crash.
The woman was to be identified by the medical examiner, according to Sgt. David Toner of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Toner said the car was registered to an owner in Ramona, but it was not clear if the victim and the owner were the same person.
The Poway Station Traffic Division was handling the investigation, and deputies asked those with information related to the crash to call (858) 513- 2811.
