ENCINITAS, Calif. - A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Encinitas Saturday evening.
A woman who was running toward railroad tracks near 1012 N. Vulcan Ave. when she was hit by an Amtrak train traveling at a rate of speed of 84 mph, San Diego sheriff's deputy Jason Burk said.
The engineer of the Amtrak train observed the woman and went into emergency braking, Burk said, but the train struck her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A description of the woman was not immediately released.
