A wildfire that burned 28 acres in an area east of Poway was 100 percent contained Sunday.

Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said the fire started Friday afternoon after a burning vehicle ignited brush alongside state Route 67, forcing residents living near Rockhouse Road to evacuate.

More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze using ground and air tactics Friday and Saturday, Bortisser said. Because the fire burned steep, rocky terrain, it took crews additional time to mop up, he noted.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes on Saturday.

There were no reports of structure damage or injuries.
