One person was killed and a second driver was seriously injured in a crash involving two cars in Vista Saturday, according to a San Diego sheriff's deputy.

The collision took place about 12:10 a.m. at the intersection of South Santa Fe Avenue and Civic Center Drive, San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Kenneth Werner said.

A BMW and a Honda collided at the intersection, Werner continued. The Honda then careened into a traffic signal pole. The driver in that car died at the scene. The person's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The BMW rolled over after the crash and landed in a nearby parking lot, Werner said. That driver was treated at the scene and transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. That driver was listed in serious condition Saturday morning.

No other people were involved in the crash.

The gender and ages of the two drivers were not immediately released by authorities.

San Diego Sheriff Department’s Traffic Unit in Vista was investigating the crash, Werner added.
