Chula Vista police are investigating an armed robbery at a Verizon Wireless store in Chula Vista Tuesday night.

Police say the store's employee was getting ready to close just after 8:30 p.m. when a man walked into the store in the 1100 block of Broadway.

The man pointed a handgun at the employee and ordered him to go into the bathroom and to get on the ground.

No customers were in the store at the time.

A second suspect then entered the store and took cell phones from the safe.

Police say about 50 cell phones were taken -- an estimated $33,000 in value.

Both men took off in a dark colored sedan.

Police searched the area, but have not been able to locate the suspects.

The suspect who entered the store first is described as a black male adult, 6’3 and heavy set. He was wearing blue jeans, a hooded sweatshirt, and a baseball cap. The employee did not see the second suspect, so police are still working on a description for that person.

The Verizon Wireless store on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Genesee in Clairemont was robbed at gunpoint on Monday evening. Police have not confirmed a connection, but say the suspect description is similar.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department.
