A man was taken to the hospital Friday after a vehicle crashed into a Kearny Mesa-area restaurant.
The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of Convoy Street, according to San Diego police.
Police say the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, sending the SUV into the Xian Kitchen restaurant.
The restaurant's chef was sitting outside when the SUV struck him. He was hospitalized with serious injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
A city structural engineer checked the integrity of the building and cleared it.
