SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State University police Saturday issued a community safety alert to the campus following two strong-arm robberies.
The first incident happened Friday at 10:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of College Avenue. A student who was standing near an east side residence hall had a cell phone grabbed away and stolen, according to SDSU police. Two suspects fled toward the nearby Jack-in-the-Box restaurant.
The second incident happened 30 minutes later in the same vicinity, when one of two suspects attempted to grab a cell phone from a student. Both suspects took off toward the parking structure on the east side of campus along College Avenue after the phone fell to the ground.
Neither student was hurt and the phone in the second incident was recovered, police said. The victims' gender and identities were not released.
The suspects were described as young, African-American men. The first suspect was in his early 20s, wearing dark clothing and about 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-9 inches tall. The second suspect was about 16-to-20 years old, tall, slender, wearing dark jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood up.
Police cautioned the campus community to be aware of their surroundings, keep their phones out of sight while walking on campus, and to call 911 immediately if they see suspicious activity.
