LA MESA, Calif. - A man escaped serious injury Tuesday when a tree landed on top of his truck following a crash at a La Mesa building.

The crash happened at a building in the 5500 block of Baltimore Drive shortly after 6 a.m.

10News learned the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel, and the truck veered from northbound Baltimore Drive and crashed into a tree. The truck then fell several feet and landed at the entrance of an underground parking garage. The impact caused the tree to hit a part of the building and fall onto the truck.

The driver was taken away via ambulance with minor injuries.

Parts of the building's wall and some windows were damaged in the wreck.
