CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. -For Guto Antunes, the reminder remains of a morning he'd like to forget.
A large scar on his right shoulder.
Last June, Antunes, a world-ranked long distance triathlete, moved from Brazil to San Diego to train.
Days later, in the bike lane on El Camino Real in Carmel Valley, he hit a series of cracks at about 10 miles per hour, including a big rise in the asphalt.
Antunes broke his collarbone and remains out of competitions.
Antunes' lawyer, Ross Jurewitz, has filed a claim with the city.
“We believe the large crack has been there for several years at least,” said Jurewitz.
